The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they oppose,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
